BloodRayne is published by Majesco and developed by WayForward which is one of my favorite developers and it’s one of the reasons I decided to check this game out in the first place—now BloodRayne has never been one of the franchise that I’ve really played to be honest with you I have never played any of the BloodRayne games before.

The main character is Rayne; she is a Dhampir who is an agent for the Brimstone Society. Rayne is recruited by the Brimstone Society for one final mission. The target is a secluded castle, filled with monstrosities of darkness protecting a sinister ball, which seems to be a huge concern for the Brimstone Society. The story is told through in-game dialog but does not happen often considering the hack ‘n slash gameplay is the focal point. It will be your task to unravel the mysteries of this castle and attempt to survive the onslaught.

In terms of structure it’s more like old school Castlevania; you go inside the castle and you make to point A to point B, fight enemies and collect optional collectables and there aren’t that many collectables in this game—all there really is skulls and if you collect five of them throughout the level, you have the option to get more health or more ammo. The game also reminded me of Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Nintendo Wii, it reminded me of that in the sense of that the combat was complicated enough to be sort of the key element of the game, unlike Castlevania series when you just have one attack button.

The combat is very sleek and well balanced and I should mention that the only way to regain health in this game is to suck blood out of your enemies. The game itself it’s among the most expensive PSN games out there but the content is definitely there, there are 50 levels and each level can take you up to 15 to 20 minutes to beat depending how good you are.

Overall I would highly recommend trying out the demo if you’re newcomer to the series; however I do recommend this for those who seek the thrill of surviving the impossible and being rewarded handsomely for it.
