The idea of this game is fairly simple. You have to defeat your opponents either by capturing all their enemy camps or doing some objectives. Your soldiers are your mushrooms. You earn more soldiers by having more camps after you capture your enemy’s camps. You can also upgrade your camps and have different types of buildings. You also have to cover your camps even when you are fighting, so that the enemy won’t be able to capture your camps.
The graphics are simple but still good for an RTS game. The game uses colorful objects to fill the screen. For a downloadable game it has very good artwork, but it doens’t have online multiplayer which is really disappointing. However it has offline multiplayer which is really cool when you play with your friends. To use online multiplayer you have to purchase the download content package separetely. The online add-on package offers you to be able to battle with up to four players, and you can compare your scores with other players worldwide. When I tried playing online, I did not encounter any technical errors or lagging, everything worked smoothly and it was easy to find players to play with me, which is very nice since there are quite a number of games out there that usually don’t have any many available players online.
The number of your soldiers/mushrooms are in the bar below the screen so you can always plan your attacks using these stats.
I enjoyed the game overall, although I thought it went too fast for me, which overwhelmed me a little. If you are a fan of Pixeljunk Monsters, then you should definitely check this game out because this is very similar.
Mushroom Wars is currently available on the PlayStation Store for $9.99 and the Online Add-Onn pack is $2.99.
