Clan of Champion Review

Clan of Champions is a hardcore multiplayer action game featuring many RPG elements developed by Acquire Corp. and published by NIS America on behalf of Acquire Corp.; available now for the Playstation 3 console. Set in a medieval fantasy world, Clan of Champions features a gladiator arena style of combat focused mainly on fighting and character-building rather than story-building. Allowing players to pick from 3 different characters to play with (human, orc, or an elf), players will go on fighting missions battling slaves, gladiators, skeletons, and many other different enemies in order to become the champion. Clan of Champions can be played either offline or online with up to 2 other co-op players on a 3 versus 3 mode online play. Playing online can be a little tricky, as you may not be able to find other players online to play with. I myself wasn’t able to find anyone to try this feature yet.

During a battle in which everyone was fighting over territory, an old town was discovered which was said to hold the source of great technological power during the Golden Ages that could create weapons of invincible power. As everyone storms into this newly discovered city in order to find that power, you will be battling others to get to it. Although there is a “plot” to Clan of Champions, you won’t be seeing anything that will move the story forward. The game is basically very focused on the missions and the battles, and you will start each round with a different mission to complete. You can play the missions either by yourself or with up to 2 other players online. There are 4 different levels of difficulty to this game, and you can play the next level of difficulty after you’ve completed the previous one.

Throughout the game you will have many opportunities to collect loot in order to make your character become stronger as you progress in the game; and although it adds a little something to the game, it will get a bit boring after a while as it feels like you are doing the same thing over and over again. It’s like a never-ending quest to earn more money in order to buy better equipment to make your character stronger with not much more to offer. There are some special moves that you will learn during the tutorial that will help you fight during the battles, but I really felt like there was a lot of button mashing during the battles, so there is not much to say about the controls. The fighting is okay, not that interesting or anything. Honestly, I think that if I were able to find other players to play this game online, it would add more excitement, but when you just play it by yourself, it will get tiring and boring very quickly. Although there are 24 levels to the game, you will be doing almost the same things, except that as you enter each new level, your enemy and you will be better equipped and stronger to fight. It can actually be a very difficult game to play, especially if you are not into this type of games. It took me awhile to get even get out of the tutorial, and even longer pass each level because there are so many levels, so far I’ve made it to the 5th level, and I don’t really want to finish the game because it has become so repetitive, but I’m willing to play it online once one of my friends get it.

The graphics were quite uninteresting in my opinion, it doesn’t look like they caught up with the latest technological effects and graphics. I’ve heard about the previous games released for PC and other consoles, and perhaps they just didn’t update the graphics before releasing it for the PS3 console. I liked the medieval sets, but the graphics just didn’t look up-to-date for a 2012 game. The sounds were okay, I don’t have anything to say about it except that some of the noises like the moans and screams were kind of annoying, and sounded quite fake, so I guess that’s the only thing that I have to complain about.

This is overall not really a game that I would usually buy for myself, but I do think that this is a good addition for a game to play online with friends or other people. When you play it by yourself, it just gets to be too repetitive, so I’d advise getting it to play online, and hopefully I will find you guys online so we can play, lol.

I will give this game a rating of 6 out of 10 because I think that it offers quite a lot of content for its price $29.99, and it can be fun to play it with others online.
