The Flying Hamster PSP Minis Review

Flyinghamsterbanana

The plot is very simple: A young hamster couple (Newton & Miss Sookie) is out for a stroll on the beach, when the female hamster stumbles upon a golden seed, the two began to rejoice in this delicious discovery, only for the female hamster to be kidnapped by an eagle (Giant Eagle) and carried off into the forest. Our hero has no choice but to put on a pair of aviator goggles, strap some leaves onto his back as a propeller, and soar off after his love.

The gameplay is fairly simple yet unique sideways scolling shooter chickens, octopus, evil penguins, seagulls, cows, ninja squirrels, and so on.. Your basic weapon is rather uncouth spitting but you can pick up a lot of different power ups including apples, bees, and even beer. In turn these can be used as single shots or charged up in to one big shot, other weapons such as bananas can be powered up to create a circling shield of yellow fruit.

As you play the game you are given 3 lives, if you hit or are hit by enemies you lose a live; and if all lives are lost, you are then given 10 seconds to either continue on your way or quit the game, you’re given 5 credits to use to continue. And if you use up all your credits, the game is over (not to fear, your game is saved after every level so there is no need in restarting the game if you run out of credits) and if you’re good enough against the competition, you can submit your high-score.

The game features 6 unique levels with some nice variations in game play with a unique Japanese Anime style look and nice tune to blast you along the way. This game have to have the best presentations for any PSP Mini currently available out there. The gameplay might be short for some but for $5.99 this game have a lot of replay value, especially if you want to unlock Hard Mode. I’d say.. don’t think twice and get it!

The game is available now in the US PlayStation Store for $5.99.

My score is 9/10

Flying Hamster finally gets a release date on US

Fly-hamster

The Flying Hamster is certainly a charming game, with its quirky, hand drawn graphics and cutesy characters. However, underneath this cute and cuddly exterior is a title with an old school mentality, as the game takes the style of a vertically scrolling shooter, with the player controlling a fairly cute and cuddly hamster, tasked with rescuing his “friend” Sookie from the clutches of an eagle, only known as “Giant Eagle”.

The game is finally coming to North America and the release date and price: December 7, for $5.99. The game is already available on the European PlayStation Store.

By the looks of things, its certainly going to be surreal.
