Doctor Who: The Eternal Clock is a 2D platforming adventure and puzzle game based on the famous British sci-fi tv show of the same name. Although a few games for this tv show that have come out for PC and Nintendo Wii gamers haven’t done so well, it’s available now for PS3 and PlayStation Vita players. For those who are unfamiliar with this tv series, Doctor Who is a science fiction series produced by BBC. The show follows the adventures of the Doctor, a time-traveling humanoid alien with two hearts, who explores the universe in his sentient and telepathic time machine called Tardis, traveling through time and space, working to save civilizations, people, and righting wrongs while he has to face a variety of enemies in order to accomplish this task.

The storyline of Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock unravels as you play the game. The game starts out as Tardis (the time machine), runs out of control and crashes down to Earth and with this incident the time stream is distorted as well, the Doctor not knowing the reason of the crash has to figure out how to fix the problem. Tardis calls River Song, the Doctor’s companion, in for reinforcement; and they both go on this adventure to figure what’s wrong with time and fix it. This game allows the player the control of both characters as you alternate from one character to the other in order to solve puzzles and fight off enemies. I found the storyline very interesting, and although I do not follow the TV show, I liked the game very much for its plot and I found the game very fun to play.

There are a few glitches when you play the game though, sometimes they will just freeze, but other than that I didn’t find other technical problems with the game. One of the things I did not like from the game is that when you get killed while playing a certain level, you have start from scratch, so there are no checkpoints, which I find very annoying at times. Some puzzles require you to solve them very quickly before an enemy is able to kill you and while you read the instructions of the puzzle, the game isn’t paused so you better do it fast before an enemy gets a hold of you, which is why I think that checkpoints are needed in this game. The visuals of the game were very detailed and high in quality in my opinion, and with each environment reflecting the time period very well. The voices of the characters played by Matt Smith and Alex Kingston are excellent in this game, and the sounds were also very good.

One of the things I think would make the game more fun is online co-op, which unfortunately
this game doesn’t offer. Overall I will give this game a 8/10, it was a very fun game to play with even with the glitches and the lack of checkpoints, it’s a good game in my opinion. If you are a fan of the Doctor Who series, I think you will find this game fun to play. Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock is available on the PlayStation Store for $19.99.
